MUSIC MINISTRY
The mission of the Music Ministry program at Christ the King is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and allow all people to experience God's love, grace, peace and joy through music. With a philosophy of ministering to the congregation rather than performing for the congregation, the musicians of our program enrich our weekly worship services in ways that written or spoken words cannot do. We include all musicians regardless of experience, age, talent, or instrument, as well as encourage participants in their spiritual growth, stewardship of talents, teamwork and fellowship.
Martin Luther said, "Music is the handmaiden of Theology". Using that as a directive, the purpose of a choir, soloist, organist, or band member is to provide a worshipful experience that is based in scripture and helps to set a spiritual pace and tone for the worship service. Yes, we must perform our selections well, and some may be quite exciting, but you will not find a "show" from the CTK Music Department on a Sunday morning. Our hope is that you will hear appropriate, engaging music in an enjoyable variety of styles, tempos, moods and instrumentation that enhances the message of the day and adds to the overall worship experience.
The Kings Choirsters (Vocal Choir): Around 30 volunteer members rehearse to provide a selective repertoire of sacred music in various musical styles. From baroque to bluegrass, a cappella or accompanied, this group proclaims the Christian message! Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7pm, September through May, and usually perform two Sundays per month, holidays and special oaccasions.
Resounding Joy BellChoir: Our inaugural handbell group has grown to 15 ringers using 5 octaves of bells. Various ringing techniques create interesting music to listen to and showcase new ways to hear familiar hymns tunes and original compositions. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 6pm, September through May, and usually perform once a month, holidays and special occasions.
Klingeltones: This small handbell choir ranges from 4 to 6 players which are pulled from the larger BellChoir. The Klingeltones provide special music once a month for a worship service, holidays and special occasions. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm.
Instrumentalists: Percussionists, brass, woodwind, and string players can be called upon for special music offerings, choral accompaniments and special events. Members and friends of the congregation are invited to be a part of the list of willing instrumentalists that may be called upon when necessary.
Special Summer Music: From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the largers choirs take the summertime off, so this provides opportunities for soloists or small groups to prepare special music selections for Sunday worship. A sign-up sheet is posted for interested members or friends of the congregation to provide special music or speak directly with Music Director Chris Buttram.
